Khosro Ansari is among the best Persian singers. Singing the words of contemporary poets with the cool elegance of a torch singer, Ansari is the modern voice of Radif, music of heartache and longing. He was introduced to classical Persian music at home, and as the years passed was more and more taken by its beauty and magic. He began formal training in the art of singing traditional Persian music under the supervision and guidance of Master Ali Asghar Shah-Zeidi. In 1986 he emigrated to the US. Although away from his homeland, he continued to practice Persian music and since then has performed in numerous concerts in North America. He has also appeared on many radio and TV interviews. Ansari has performed with one of the most exceptional ensembles of its generation specializing in contemporary and improvisational mystical music, the Lian Ensemble in which he contributes with soft, contemplative gestures in his voice and distinguished compositions. This ensemble has had a profound impact on the Persian music, introducing the Mystical Persian Music to as wide an audience in the west as possible. Ansari has performed at many prestigious festivals such as Hilltop Cultural Celebration by Coca-Cola (Atlanta), CalArts Creative Music Festival
(Valencia), A.S.K. festival in UCLA (Los Angeles), Long Beach Symphony (Long Beach). He has made several recording with Lian ensembles; entitled The Name of the Beloved (1999), Banquet in the Tavern of Ruin (1999), and Dar Shekarestan (2000). Khosro who is one of the most exceptional vocalist of Persian Classical music abroad was also featured in numerous motion pictures and TV series such as Spy Game, Man on Fire, ER and Third watch to name a few. He has been living in Los Angeles since 1991, where he teaches Persian music and pursues his own studies in world music.
