ANDREW GRUESCHOW

Received his bachelor's from California Institute of the Arts. He then spent one year attending the Ali Akbar College of Music, where he continued his studies with tabla maestro Swapan Chaudhuri. In 1997 Andrew returned to California Institute of the Arts for a masters degree in North Indian Music. After receiving his masters, he traveled throughout Ghana for six months, studying the music of the Ewe and the Dagombas. In addition to the Hands On'Semble, Andrew is also a member of the Zadonu African Music and Dance Company, led by Kobla Ladzekpo and Dizorgbe Lawluvi. He is also a featured member of the Cal Arts African Music and Dance Ensemble. He has performed in Germany , Brazil , Ghana , and throughout the US Currently Andrew teaches at Sangeet School of World Music and Dance , and at Plaza de la Raza. Recently, Andrew returned to Ghana to record traditional music for Zadonu records. Teachers have included: John Bergamo, Kobla Ladzekpo, Swapan Chaudhuri, Alfred Ladzekpo, Sulley Imoro, Sayibu Nindow, Dizorgbe Lawluvi, Yeko Ladzekpo-Cole, I Nyomen Wenten.
