MANI BOLOURI is a composer and a virtuoso player of the kamancheh and gheychak. His compositions have variously been described as having qualities of inherent beauty and strong musical structure that makes it a satisfying musical entity.

He received his master degree in composition from the Tehran Art University. His principal teacher was grand master Mohammad Saeed Sharifian. Mani also worked under supervision of masters, Taleb Khan Shakidi, Khayam Mirza, Zadeh, Sharif Lotfi, Ahmad Pejman, and Siyavash Beyzaee.

Mani also holds a performance degree from Tehran Art University in Persian kamancheh and gheychak, where he was a student of Darvish Reza Montazami and Davood Ganjehei. He has devoted many years to study the ethnic songs and dances of Iran. Mani has been performing the kamancheh with many groups and solo dancers throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. 

His composition “creation”, written for kamancheh, tar, Santour, marimba, cello, double bass, and percussion was performed at the Holiday Celebration in Dorothy Chandler Pavilion  in  Los Angeles and was broadcasted live on “KCET” in 2008 . Bolouri has performed in various music festivals across the United States, Canada, and Asia including the “ World Festival of Sacred music” in UCLA Royce Hall, “Creative Music Festival" in REDCAT at Disney Hall, “Savannah Music Festival " in Savannah Georgia, “Tirgan Festival in Harbor front in Toronto, and “Marine Poetry Festival " with Robert Bly in San Francisco.

Mani joined the Lian ensemble in 2006 and together they have had many performances throughout the United States including concert s at the Getty Center, Royce Hall Auditorium in UCLA University, USC Bovard Auditorium, Kresge Auditorium in Stanford University to name a few.

Bolouri has collaborated with a diverse group of artists from American jazz to the traditional Rajistani singers from India.

Currently Bolouri and the Lian ensemble are publishing a CD in collaboration with the master throat singers of Tuva, Siberia.

Mani is the recipient of 2008-2010 Durfee master musician fellowship grant from Durfeefoundation. He was also the recipient of LA Treasure in 2007.

In 2005 Mani's composition “the circle of fire” written for symphony orchestra was featured at the Iranian national Television. He has also composed many works of contemporary and neo-classical Iranian music for various ensembles. In 1995, he joint the National Radio and Television Orchestra of Iran, where he performed for ten years as a composer and performer. He has more than forty recordings in the television’s archive.

Bolouri published a children's music book titled “Music Mountain” for piano in 2005.

He has been teaching music for over fifteen years. In 1995, he founded Shahrzad ensemble in Iran. The ensemble performed “Leyli and Majnoon” an orchestral piece for voice and play.

He moved to the United States in 2005 and has appeared on many TV and radio interviews with live performances such as KPFK in Los Angeles and CBC radio 2 in Canada.  Bolouri currently lives in Los Angeles, and teaches various courses including composition, Persian folk and traditional music.
